Thank you for taking the time to review my profile. Finding the right Psychologist can be a challenge, and I hope you find the one that is right for you or your loved one (whether or not I am the one).  In this profile, I hope to share some information so that you can begin to have a sense if I might be a good match.  However, if you need more information, please feel free to contact me.

I see therapy as a profound growth opportunity, and am honored in my role as a Psychologist.  My goal is to help my clients become unstuck in living the lives they really want, across all areas of life.  In this way, I see it as much more than just a means of treating symptoms, although is certainly is that too.

In addition to my clinical skills, I have a warm and genuine style which allows most people to feel comfortable, safe, accepted, and supported.

My practice focuses on providing high quality individual, family, couples and group therapy to adults, adolescents and children.  I am not limited to one theoretical orientation or approach, but rather tailor individualized treatment plans based on the needs and preferences of my clients.  Often this can involve combining strategies, for instance helping a client first to better manage his or her emotions and then working on relationships or life choices.  Similarly, in working with couples or families, often there are individual issues which need to be addressed, as well as changes which need to occur in the relationships. Sometimes, if they don't conflict, I can provide multiple of these roles.  If these roles might present conflicts, I have a range of very strong clinicians with whom I coordinate care.  Similarly, if a client is in need of psychiatric medication, I work closely with a variety of male and female Psychiatrists to whom I refer clients.

Again, thank you very much for taking the time to read this.  I hope it gave you a feel for me and my practice.  For more information, you might want to visit my domain www.davidshapirophd.com or call my office at (949) 582-3002.  It would be an honor to be of assistance to you.

Insurance:Aetna Blue Cross Blue Shield Cigna Coventry Magellan and an out of network provider for other PPO insurances
For those insurances on which I am a preferred provider, I accept the negotiated rates.  I will check the benefits, and let you know what I am told about the co-payment and deductible. In such cases, I only collect the amount that I believe is due at the time the services are delivered and send in a claim to the insurance company.  In such cases, I do require that clients keep a credit card on file, to address any balances due.

My full fee is approximately $195 per session for therapy, however I do reduce this for those uninsured/underinsured clients with a financial need.  Generally, I am able to reduce this as low as $145 per session when a need is present.

I do charge for missed appointments and appointment for which 24 hour notice is not given regarding the cancellation.  These cannot be submitted to the insurance, so the client is responsible for the full amount (i.e. not just the copay).

I visited Dr. Shapiro for help with my fear of flying. After 16 years of not being able to fly, I was amazed at the comfort I felt traveling to Hawaii for a week. I experienced no anxiety whatsoever. Dr. Shapiro was knowledgeable, competent, helpful, friendly and very ethical. Instead of sitting and listening and dragging the treatment out, he was very proactive in creating a simple plan that worked. We originally agreed to a minimum of four visits, but after three sessions Dr. Shapiro felt the additional visit and cost was unnecessary.

What an incredible experience.  Dr. Shapiro helped me so much.  I have been to several therapist before without much success.  Most of them just sat and talked to me session after session, but Doctor Shapiro helped me come up with and carry out a plan for getting my life back.  I strongly recommend him.
