Dr. Cottam was effective in addressing the issues between my daughter and her father. She has a very gentle manner and has dealt with some of the most horrifying things one could imagine in a family situation. Law degree and PhD make her testimony highly persuasive. She is a sweet person as well.

Controlling, domineering, bossy, overbearing, hardheaded, unheard if these are the  qualities your looking for in a therapist then this is it. After session 5 Dr Cottom literally instigated a fight with my 14 year old during their 1 on 1, and when my 14 year implemented Cottom's rule and asked for a break b4 my 14 year old lost their cool, she Dr. Cottom "get this FIRED my child as her client". Then proceeded to the room my husband and I was invited to wait in, yelling at us that our family was fired. I thought "isn't that our line, I mean we hired and we are paying u. Don't u mean u quit". I asked her to remain professional because that is what we was paying her for. She actually walked over to me and stood over me and stated " I don't need any of your attitude" I slapped the table stood up and gather my control and replied coolly " I promise you I don't have an attitude, but you will back up out of my face". She backed up went out to the waiting and continued yelling at my 14 year old. Now please understand I AM A MOTHER, and only true mothers will understand that one. I asked Dr. Cottam please stop speaking to my child. My child called Cottam a bitch. No matter how wrong Cottam was I reprimanded my child and made them apologize for their inappropriate behavior. After this Cottam continued her assault toward us threatening calling the police even though we were leaving, my husband took control of our 14 year old as I went back into the family room to collect our things. Cottam followed me though out the office trying to bait me into an issue with me. The whole time I'm thinking " oh my goodness did I really trust you with my problems,  I'm I really paying you for this. I don't need your drama lady. Her assistant even apologized to us as we left. All I can say is you've been warned. Go at your own risk.

Ms. Cottam performed psycological evaluations on my granddaughter's parents. This was court ordered. It took 5 1/2 months to get the results of the evaluations. When Ms. Cottam testified in court to the findings she contradicted the findings of the tests, giving the opinion that although my granddaughter's mother has issues that should be "monitored", including drug and alchol abuse she was ok to have unsupervised visitation/parenting time. This is contradictory to Ms. Cottam's report in which I understand stated that my granddaughter's mother would possibly be ok to have unsupervised visitation/parenting time if she was getting help for her problems.
During the interview at my Son's evaluation Ms. Cottam also made some very unproffessonal statements. One comment she made was about the protection order my son has against his wife and how she'd like to get them "in a room together and let them butt heads". She may be a "smart" woman but it appears that she lets her mouth and personal opinions over ride her so called professionalism.
