I met with Dr. Kent for an initial visit. I was in therapy many years ago in another city, and have been looking for someone local to help address my depression.
It was my understanding, according to my insurance provider, that Dr. Kent was an experienced therapist, and specialized in the treatment of depression. My experience with her did not bare that out.
She was more than 10 minutes late to our first appointment, and did not acknowledge or apologize for being late. She then spent the first five minutes of the time that I paid for therapy to do administrative things (copying my insurance card, etc.) She did not have a receptionist or other assistant.
I asked her for her approach to therapy; how she measures patients' success, and how she would describe her style. It seemed that it was the first time anyone had asked her that question, and she was not able to answer it beyond "I guess cognitive behavioral therapy."
She did not appear to listen to my description of my concerns, and instead, gave bizarre advice about going back to school and changing careers. Nothing about re-framing my thoughts or understanding myself in a new way. I question whether she has been trained in cognitive behavioral therapy.

If you know how to solve your own problems, maybe you didn't need a therapist after all.
