Made the biggest difference to me.  Good listener, wise beyond most, patient and kind.  Allows you to see your contribution not only to problems but real solutions.

I went to see Jim Roberts to deal with alcohol dependency issues and also to seek help with dealing with some anxiety issues. When I went to my second second session with Mr. Roberts and told him that I had had a few drinks the week prior and he then asked me how I felt that I should fix my drinking problem. I was confused as I am the patient and I am seeking professional help me to find that answer. He acted very irritated and at a loss for an answer as to how to help me. When I asked him what his professional opinion was that I should do, all he could come up with was in-patient treatment. I did not think that my problem was that sever and that that would be a very very last resort for me. When I did not agree with him, he become defensive and started to degrade me as a person and put me down. It was a very uncomfortable and unprofessional situation.  I have never been treated so poorly by a health care professional, ever. I absolutely do not recommend him as a therapist.

I sought therapy with Jim Roberts because I was having trouble juggling different life decisions with work and school and had been experiencing some depression symptoms. Based upon his profile on Psychology Today, I thought Jim Roberts sounded like a great therapist. Prior to Mr. Roberts, I had seen an awesome therapist for about two years and I gained a lot out of my sessions with her so I was looking forward to what would hopefully be another positive experience.

While I only ended up seeing him for two sessions, they were enough to convince me that I needed to seek help elsewhere. When I described the problems I was experiencing, he stared at me blankly as if I were speaking a foreign language and kept indicating that I was being too "general" and should get more specific. I described the different life issues I was going through (stress about work, relationship problems, depression symptoms, etc.) in a manner that was as articulate, specific, and comprehensible as possible but for some reason I had a lot of trouble making sense to him.

At the second session, I was late and he scolded me by saying that, based upon his experience, patients that were late to sessions didn't really care about their treatment or recovery. I explained that I did care a lot about my treatment, but that I also dealt with ADD symptoms that can contribute to tardiness and that this problem had carried over into other areas of life (work, school, etc.) as well. I indicated that I invested a lot of interest (and money) into therapy, and would be willing to work on my tardiness but he didn't back down and passive-aggressively indicated that I should consider what he said about patients "not really caring."

At this point I was very frustrated as he wasn't showing the kind of impartial attitude I was used to from professional counselors. I told him that I would find a different therapist, gave him his check, and left.
