Introduction:
FOSTERING MENTAL AND RELATIONAL WELLNESS THROUGH PSYCHOTHERAPY.
Dr. Jenny Burkholder specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders, such as: Generalized Anxiety (GAD), Panic Attacks, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Hoarding, Social Anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD), Postpartum Anxiety, Phobias, and other anxiety related problems.

Feeling anxiety can be a natural response to help us deal with threats identified in our environment. Anxiety stops being helpful when experienced in safe, everyday situations. Excessive anxiety may start to negatively affect one's emotional well-being, relationships with others, health, career, and identity. We can help you develop healthy coping skills and thinking through evidence-based techniques and therapies. Together, we work with clients to create meaningful goals and work towards a more manageable, satisfying life.

Anxiety disorders is the most common mental illness in the U.S. but only 37% of people receive any treatment. Your anxiety may not go away on its own and may get worse over time. Seek help now; it may be easier to treat if addressed early.

Beginning of treatment:
•Phone consultation - issues are presented in general terms, appointment scheduled
•In-person evaluation - presenting issues further discussed, appropriateness for treatment determined
•Development of treatment plan -  collaborative formation of therapeutic goals specific to each client

Bulk of Treatment:
•Psychoeducation - provides information about disorder (root, symptoms, treatment, prognosis, etc.)
•Psychotherapy - some or all of the following therapies may be employed in treatment: Behavioral Therapy (works to extinguish the conditioned fear response, behavioral modification), Cognitive Therapy (works to identify and correct distorted beliefs and maladaptive thinking), Psychodynamic Therapy (works to uncover unresolved conflicts), and Stress Reduction and Relaxation Techniques (strategies to lessen and counteract the stress response)
•Pharamacotherapy - may recommend medication in conjuction with therapy (referral to psychiatrist)

End of Treatment:
•Evaluation of treatment - have all goals been met? do other issues need to be addressed?
•Termination of treatment - therapy is ended, openness to future booster sessions if needed

Sessions are typically scheduled to meet once a week for 50 minutes.
