Therapeutic Approach

It is often said that the simple act of making art offers healing.  I believe that Art Therapy is healing in that it helps one to access their innermost dreams and move past areas in their life that feel stuck.  Making art creates the space to be with the things in our lives that require attention: the decision we are afraid to make, the feeling that is hard to name, or the issue that keeps returning.  Art Therapy is a modality suited for anyone, including people who do not consider themselves artistic and those who never make "art."  My approach is to travel with you on the journey of self-discovery, offering non-judgmental assistance and blending a combination of modalities from my training to suit your needs.

I am trained in Transpersonal psychology, which acknowledges the whole person, body, mind and spirit while also honoring the cultural contexts within which we live.  I believe it is essential to discuss one’s life through the lens of the culture one was raised and currently lives within.  This perspective honors deeply rooted values and beliefs, which are the framework for our inner worlds.

Mindfulness practices also inform my approach as I work to pass along the techniques of guided imagery, meditation and focusing-oriented art therapy, allowing you to take care of yourself in new and creative ways.  It is important to me that those I work with learn skills to continue their progress outside of the therapy setting, empowering you to find peace of mind and inspiration in your daily life.

Neuroscience provides the foundation for my work with clients and trauma.  Helping you to understand your brain’s functioning through a neuroscience perspective makes way for profound progress in resolving old traumas. As a trained EMDR level II clinician, I would be happy to share with you ways in which I have witnessed the benefits of EMDR within my practice.

Overall, my work is an exploration in the fragility and resilience of the human experience as I am captivated by the strength of the human spirit and the inherent wisdom of our body’s and minds.  Through present-centered attention and a heartfelt desire to assist you in reconnecting with your guiding wisdom, I look forward to hearing how I can assist you.

I believe face-to-face contact is important for forming a dynamic match between therapist and client.  I offer a complimentary 30 minute meeting so that we can get to know one another and for you to ask me any questions that would help you in finding the best therapist for your needs. I am also able to schedule our first meeting over the phone if you like.  Should we be a fitting match, we can then schedule an appointment to begin working together. If not, I can refer you to another qualified therapist.

As I believe everyone is entitled to quality therapeutic services, I offer counseling on a sliding scale.  We can discuss a rate together, based on your need, in our initial session.
