Kevin was the best therapist I could ask for at just the right time. Working with him brought great focus to the current issues and tasks at hand instead of just on pre-prescribed diagnosis that sometimes in the past, had me feeling as if I was crippled by some mental issue. I'm not and since I started seeing Kevin much has happened, and the future looks very bright. Kevin is the perfect therapist for someone who thinks creatively outside of the general box as this is how he handles his sessions. He's knowledgeable and adaptive to the situation.

I've been going to Kevin Harding for a couple of years. He has helped me immensely and I look forward to our sessions. He is a good listener and remembers details from previous talks which helps me see trends and the 'big picture'.  He sometimes relates his own experiences but always with a teaching moment in mind.  He's good about making up time if there is a cancellation and always has good information about various resources in San Francisco. My quality of life has greatly improved and I highly recommend Kevin as a  therapist.

Kevin has good energy and has given good counsel without making me or my partner feel judged or like he's taking sides as was a problem with previous therapists. He always has an amusing array of analogies to highlight a point. Would certainly recommend his services.

Talks about his personal life.  Flakes last minute.  Barters for services.  He is energetic, but erratic and self-absorbed.  His empathy feels disingenuous.  He can be charming, but we're not at a bar, we're in therapy.

Everything which this reviewer didn't like about Kevin Harding was exactly something which I *did* like.

(1) "Talks about his personal life."  I don't like therapists who are just a "blank wall".  I want to know that I'm talking to a real person.  And I frequently have gotten a lot of insight from things about his own life which he mentions, because he picks the ones which are relevant to my own situation.

(2) "Flakes last minute."  Yes, he has (very seldom) canceled on short notice.  Who hasn't?  I've canceled my appointment with him on short notice -- and he didn't charge me for the missed appointment.

(3) "Barters for services."  The only thing I've experienced like that is that when I had no money to pay him, he made all kinds of accommodations and other arrangements so that I could continue as his client.

(4) "He is energetic, but erratic and self-absorbed."  This is subjective, and I don't happen to agree (except with "energetic").

(5) "His empathy feels disingenuous."  I completely disagree with this.  I couldn't disagree more!

(6) "He can be charming, but we're not at a bar, we're in therapy."  Evidently this reviewer and I have completely different expectations about therapists.

I have probably been to about 17 therapists over the course of 35 years.  Most of them will have only done me some good if I ever become a stand-up comedian and can use them as material!

I have been Kevin Harding's client for four years now, because he is the one therapist who has really helped me!  He is the only therapist I've ever had where I leave the office feeling better about my life than I did when I went in.  He always gives very practical action-oriented advice.  Even on those occasions when the details of the advice may not quite work out, the advice always sets me on a good direction.

If you want a therapist who will indulge you moaning about your problems but not doing anything about them, he might not be for you.  (Even that is only based on my own experience.  Perhaps he has other clients whom he does let explore their feelings in depth.  I don't know.)  But if you want a therapist who will get you started really taking control of your own life, I highly recommend him.
