I provide caring, supportive psychotherapy for adults, couples, adolescents, and families. I help individuals age 14 and up and their families to cope with stress, life transitions, grief, trauma, anger, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and low self-esteem.

Are you feeling sad, hopeless, frustrated, confused, scared or stuck? Please contact me for a free 10 to 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your needs and goals. I'm currently accepting new patients (fall/winter 2019).

I specialize in family and couples' therapy for a wide range of relationship and parenting concerns. Even if you attend therapy by yourself, understanding your family dynamics is often the key to feeling better and improving your current relationships. As a parent of three adult children, including twins, I appreciate the joys and frustrations of parenting.

I teach many coping skills, based on CBT and DBT. We'll break down your goals into manageable steps so you can achieve meaningful changes quickly. You will be most successful if you are willing to do simple homework assignments. My treatment is based on cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, narrative, contextual and structural family therapy models, mindfulness/relaxation and other proven strategies.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship should give you power to express your inner strengths and freedom from emotional pain. My clients tell me that they trust me, and I treat them with compassion and respect. I will challenge you to grow when you're stuck, and help to build your self-esteem when you have doubts. I'll help you to understand emotional issues that may be blocking you from moving forward.

In addition to my private practice, I've provided treatment at three outpatient group psychiatric practices. I have worked with children, teens, young adults and their families in family-based, school and residential settings. I have facilitated individual, group and family psychotherapy for adults and senior adults in intensive-outpatient (IOP) and partial-hospitalization (PHP) programs.

I graduated from the intensive, three-year post-master's program at The Philadelphia Child & Family Therapy Training Center, founded by family-therapy pioneer Salvador Minuchin & colleagues in 1975. I've earned more than 350 hours of post-master's continuing-education credits in specialized areas mentioned here.

I was looking for a new therapist when I found Laurie in July 2019, due to insurance issues.

Laurie’s kind, calm and compassionate demeanor was exactly what I needed while dealing with the grief of my sister, who I lost to cancer a few years prior, as well as dealing with an active eating disorder, anxiety, depression and PTSD from a childhood trauma. It’s always been important to me to feel safe in therapy, and Laurie created that safe space from the first moment I saw her. She seemed to know when I just needed to vent and cry, and when to suggest different coping strategies.  Perhaps what I learned most from her was how much in denial I was that grief was in every part of how I was living, and how I needed to be kinder to myself. I would go into a session spilling out all my chaos, and she would point out where it was really grief manifesting itself, instead of me just not trying hard enough. She always encouraged me to reach out to her if I needed to schedule another session before our next scheduled appointment, and was always responsive when I did reach out for help.

I contacted Laurie for my 16 year old son. Within the first emotional phone call, I knew she had a nurturing and caring way about her that I have not found in any other therapist. My son has been to 3 therapists over the years, and none of them had any success. Laurie has found a way to break through his wall, even though she has to do it at each session, she has so much patience, and each time he goes, she has helped him progress with at least one new thing. He is more willing to work with her than anyone in the past. Laurie has excellent ideas, knows how to insert them into the conversation, and knows how to deal with a teen who doesn't want to talk! No other therapist could get my son to discuss anything, and they all just gave up! Laurie's caring nature, her demeanor, I feel her whole aura is a big part of what helps make the experience better for my teen. Laurie also is very keen, and can read between the lines, or the unspoken things, and without confirming anything, she has the ability to address these things that she has keenly figured out, when no one has actually said them out loud. I would recommend anyone to see her, definitely for teens, but also adults, but I stress here...if you have a teen who needs to work on some stuff, bring them to Laurie!! Life has changed dramatically for my son, and it did not take many visits for this to happen! Even when we left an appointment and felt maybe we didn't get anything from it, bam, something would happen within 24 hours to let me know that yes, we DID get something out of that meeting with Laurie! I am soo grateful that I found Laurie for my son! She has helped me as well!

I have been working with Laurie for over a year and a half. I have seen a few therapists in my life and she is by far the best! I came to see her during a turbulent time in my marriage, and as a mother of 2 young children. Laurie listens extremely well, asks just the right questions, shows true compassion, helps me recognize my thought patterns, and encourages me to show more healthy behaviors/responses.  She has been my lifeline during the most difficult time of my life. She also has facilitated couples marriage sessions with myself and my husband and always has a way to diffuse any tension.  She allows us both to share freely and has a way to bring us back to the topic at hand of we get off track. Today, my marriage is in a much more stable, healthy condition and only getting better.

Laurie has also been helping me cope with many other difficult situations in my life, such as my brother's heroin addiction and homelessness, serious health issues, stressors at my job, and my relationship with my mother.

Laurie has always made me feel totally comfortable, she HEARS me, offers sound feedback and leaves me feeling uplifted and encouraged to continue the path towards better mental health, appropriate coping skills, and general happiness.  I highly reccomend her to anyone looking for a therapist for marital and family issues!
