Of all the qualities one would hope a counselor to possess, empathy, social skills, and professionalism seem pretty indispensable. My experience with Lisa French suggested her total lack of these qualities.

Before even listening to my presenting concern or attempting to build any sort of rapport with me whatsoever, Lisa French, having perused my medical chart, insensitively, coolly, and cavalierly delivered her first words, "So, I see you have a history of lots of child abuse."

I acknowledged that I had been abused as a child by my pediatrician and that I had difficulty developing trust with health care providers. I could not believe Lisa French's next cavalier comment (delivered in a similarly indifferent tone)- she said, "So what are you doing here then?" I explained that I wanted to heal some of my early hurts from abuse experiences. Lisa then initiated an argumentative tone stating, "Most people don't want that, [they want to move on]." I asked if she could help me understand her perspective on why revisiting old wounds might not be in my best interest. Lisa French was unable to offer additional explanation and repeated multiple times, "most people don't want that."

Confiding your most private personal matters is a tender, sensitive matter. I would strongly discourage working as a client with Lisa French based on my personal experiences in her office. I was actually having a good day before I met her- I left feeling unheard, uncared for, and frankly, a bit bullied.

If that wasn't enough, she billed me for a diagnostic interview that she did not provide. Diagnostic interviews include the administration of standardized measures, an interview regarding symptom history, etc. Lisa French did none of things but choose to bill me for this more expensive service. Absolutely egregious.
