My clients appreciate the safe and nonjudgmental nature of therapy that we develop together. In the beginning, I do a thorough evaluation. A specific treatment plan helps us stay focused and makes the therapy what you want it to be. I provide many ideas and skills for individuals to try in their efforts to solve their problems. I believe each of us has the inner expertise for our own healing but sometimes need a counselor to navigate the way.

I use Mindfulness Meditation and various relaxation techniques. Spiritual values are respected and can be a strong foundation for recovering from emotional turmoil. One of my primary values is the family. Helping people heal their family of origin relationships can bring relief and provide a method for dealing with current relationships. Overall, I help people overcome fears from the past so they can live life to the fullest. I teach skills for healthy living. Our therapy relationship is important and essential for healing and growth.

Overall, I help couples learn skills to bring back the joy in their relationship.  I work with  individuals who want to let go of old fears and pain so they can enjoy their current life and people who want to get the most out of their life and relationships.

I graduated from Illinois State University in 1984 with an MS in Clinical Psychology.  My post graduate training has been extensive.   I spent three years learning Structural Family Therapy with Family Systems Training in St. Paul, MN.  I have completed Levels I & II with Dr. John and Julie Gottman at the Gottman Institute in Seattle Washington.   They conducted a series of long-term studies to determine what people who are destined to succeed in their relationships actually do differently from people who are destined to fail.  Researchers have identified specific interpersonal habits or abilities that distinguish people who are destined to succeed.  By assessing the presence or absence of these interpersonal habits, researchers have been able to predict which people eventually divorce with over 90% accuracy.   I can help you learn what you can do to increase the likelihood your partner will treat you better and that you will avoid divorce or separation.
I have obtained cutting-edge training from Dr. Brent Atkinson of The Couples Clinic in Geneva, Illinois who has combined the Gottman’s extensive research with up-to-date neuroscience that explains emotional habits that couples develop—causing the same argument over and over.  This comprehensive treatment of your relationship can help you find the joy and love you want.
