Sylvie Abramson, L.C.S.W. has been engaged in the private practice of psychotherapy for over twenty years. She has spent the last sixteen years in South Florida. She specializes in psychoanalytic psychotherapy of individuals, couples, teens, families and groups.

Mrs. Abramson received her undergraduate degree from Concordia University in Montreal where she pursued a major in Applied Social Sciences and minors in Psychology and Sociology. She completed her Masters degree in Clinical Social Work at the University of Montreal and at Laval University in Quebec City, Canada.

She has pursued many years of continuing education in the psychoanalytic Kohutian School of Self Psychology with a student of Marian Tolpin (herself a student of Heinz Kohut).

She is licensed as a Clinical Social Worker by the State of Florida and a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Her certification includes her Qualification as a Clinical Supervisor for candidates pursuing licensure in Florida.

A member of the National Association of Social Workers and NASW Diplomate in Clinical Social Work (DCSW), she maintains the highest distinction bestowed on clinical social workers.

Mrs. Abramson is certified by the Florida Intervention Project for Nurses (IPN) in the assessment and treatment of impaired healthcare practitioners.

Her early work included psychiatric and school social work.
She was later employed as a clinician at Jewish Family Services in Montreal, Boston and Fort Lauderdale. Her clinical work included evaluation, assessment, acute crisis intervention, individual, family, teen and group psychotherapy. She also worked with clients experiencing sequelae of domestic violence, child abuse, mood disorders, anxiety, adjustment disorders, gay and lesbian issues, relationship challenges and acute reactions to stressful life events.

For the past eight years Mrs. Abramson also worked as a Program Manager and Clinical Supervisor of the program staff at Gilda's Club, an organization for families and children touched by cancer. She has developed clinical expertise in psycho oncology - living with cancer and other life threatening diseases, bereavement and grief counseling.

She currently serves as the co-chair on the Board of Directors of Angel's Pediatric Heart House, a non-profit organization supporting families affected by congenital heart defects.

Fluent in five languages and having lived in North Africa, Europe,
the Middle East and Canada, Mrs. Abramson is able to provide services to a culturally diverse clientele.
